The Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) administers a variety of housing programs in its quest to provide subsidized housing to low and
moderate income individuals and families. The two largest are Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher program (previously known
as Section 8).
As you read about our programs and services, you will see that HOC is indeed a multi-dimensional agency and is always looking for creative
ways to meet housing needs in Montgomery County. (See Tips to Help You Find Housing.)
FY 13 Annual and Five Year Plans HOC has developed proposed revisions of its FY 2013 Annual and Five-Year Plans in compliance with the Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998.
Public Housing HOC manages 1,500 public housing units that includes seven family developments, four high-rise towers for elderly and disabled residents,
and scattered sites throughout the County.
Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) HOC administers over 5,600 federal Housing Choice vouchers that allow eligible individuals to rent in the private market and apply a
subsidy to their rent.
Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program
Public housing and HCV families achieve self-sufficiency over a five to seven year period towards ending dependency on all public benefits,
such as welfare, food stamps, medical assistance, and child care subsidies.
